Minifig
Pope Urban II Version 2
- SGD$138.00
Pope Urban II was the head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 12 March 1088 to his death. He is best known for convening the Council of Clermont which ignited the series of Christian conquests known as the Crusades. As a cardinal, Urban was a strong supporter of Gregory's reforms, which aimed to strengthen the power of the papacy and reduce the influence of secular rulers. In 1084, Urban was sent by Gregory to France to rally support against the antipope Clement III, who had been installed by the Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV. Urban was successful in this mission, and Clement was forced to flee Rome.
