Gimli is a skilled warrior and a staunch friend. He is also known for his wit and his love of ale. He is initially suspicious of the Elves, but he develops a close friendship with Legolas, the elf archer. Gimli is a brave and loyal companion, and he plays a key role in the Fellowship's quest. He fights bravely in the Battle of Helm's Deep and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
He also helps to destroy the One Ring by carrying it into the fires of Mount Doom. After the defeat of Sauron, Gimli is given the lordship over the Glittering Caves at Helm's Deep. He eventually sails to the Undying Lands with Legolas.
