Dorgon

Dorgon of the Aisin-Gioro was one of the most decisive architects of the early Qing dynasty, a prince of immense talent, ambition, and political skill. As regent for the young Shunzhi Emperor, he guided the Manchu conquest of China proper and transformed military victory into stable imperial rule during a moment of immense upheaval.

Dorgon combined battlefield command with sharp statecraft, overseeing reforms that helped the Qing establish authority over a vast new empire. Though his legacy remains debated, he stands as a towering figure of transition—both conqueror and administrator—whose actions shaped the destiny of China for centuries to come.
