Melisende Queen of Jerusalem

S$138.00

Melisende, Queen of Jerusalem (1105–1161), was one of the most remarkable rulers of the Crusader States, remembered for her wisdom, resilience, and political acumen. The daughter of King Baldwin II of Jerusalem and the Armenian princess Morphia of Melitene, she inherited a unique blend of Frankish and Eastern influences that shaped her reign.

Crowned co-ruler with her husband Fulk of Anjou in 1131, she proved herself far more than a ceremonial figure. Melisende was deeply involved in governance, overseeing military campaigns, diplomatic affairs, and the administration of Jerusalem. Her charisma and intellect made her a unifying figure in a kingdom beset by external threats.
