Zhu Yuanzhang (LYL)

S$138.00

Zhu Yuanzhang, later known as Emperor Hongwu, was the founder of the Ming Dynasty and one of the most extraordinary figures in Chinese history. Born into poverty and orphaned at a young age, he spent part of his youth as a Buddhist monk before joining a rebel army during the collapse of the Yuan Dynasty. Through strategic brilliance, military acumen, and unyielding ambition, Zhu rose from humble beginnings to become the unifier of a fractured China. In 1368, he proclaimed himself emperor and established the Ming Dynasty, restoring Han Chinese rule after nearly a century of Mongol domination. His reign was marked by sweeping reforms in taxation, governance, and land distribution, aimed at strengthening central authority and easing the burden on peasants. However, his later years grew increasingly autocratic, marked by purges and suspicion toward officials.

Zhu Yuanzhang was determined, resourceful, and ruthless. He embodied the ideal of rising from the bottom to reshape an empire. His leadership ended foreign rule and revived Chinese culture. He ruled with both vision and iron discipline. His legacy shaped centuries of Chinese governance. Zhu Yuanzhang was the peasant who rose to wear the dragon robe.
