Cao Hong, courtesy name Zilian, was a loyal and battle-hardened general who served under his cousin Cao Cao during the late Eastern Han dynasty and the early Three Kingdoms period. Known for his bravery and unwavering loyalty, Cao Hong played a vital role during Cao Cao’s early campaigns, including his pivotal rescue of Cao Cao at the Battle of Wancheng when the warlord was nearly killed. He was a fierce warrior on the battlefield and a dependable commander in times of crisis, often trusted with guarding key positions. His loyalty remained steadfast even as court politics became increasingly dangerous under Cao Pi, though it eventually led to his temporary downfall due to court rivalries. Nonetheless, his legacy as a protector and pillar of the Wei state endured.

Cao Hong was courageous, loyal, and pragmatic. He saved Cao Cao’s life at great personal risk. His strength lay in reliability, not ambition. He endured through war, politics, and shifting power.
