Roland

Roland is one of the most celebrated knights of medieval European legend, remembered as a heroic paladin in the service of Charlemagne. Historically a Frankish military commander who died at the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778, Roland was transformed by later literature—most famously The Song of Roland—into the ideal Christian knight, renowned for his courage, loyalty, and refusal to surrender even when facing overwhelming odds.
