Romance of the Three Kingdoms Huang Gai
Huang Gai was one of the most loyal and battle-hardened generals of Eastern Wu during the late Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. Known for his unshakable resolve and deep loyalty to Sun Jian, Sun Ce, and later Sun Quan, he became a cornerstone figure in Wu’s military campaigns. He was a veteran of countless battles, renowned for his courage and for commanding both respect and fear on the battlefield.
Though stern and sometimes harsh in discipline, Huang Gai’s authority stemmed from both his experience and his unwavering devotion to his state. His most famous contribution came during the Battle of Red Cliffs, where he bravely executed the “self-injury ruse” to deceive Cao Cao’s forces. This act allowed him to deliver the decisive fire attack that turned the tide of the war.
