Liu Shan, often known as Liu Chan, was the second and final emperor of Shu Han in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, remembered as a gentle but tragically ineffective ruler who inherited the legacy of heroes far greater than himself. As the son of Liu Bei, he grew up under the protection of legendary figures like Zhuge Liang, yet lacked the strength and vision needed to preserve Shu’s fading fortunes.

In the novel and popular culture, Liu Chan is often portrayed as naïve, passive, and overly dependent on his ministers, becoming a symbol of decline after Zhuge Liang’s death.
