Wanyan Zongbi

Wanyan Zongbi, better known in folklore and popular literature as Jin Wuzhu (金兀术), was one of the most renowned military commanders of the Jin dynasty. A prince of the Jurchen-led empire, he played a pivotal role in the Jin conquest of northern China during the Southern Song period. Gifted with exceptional leadership, courage, and strategic skill, Jin Wuzhu became a feared opponent on the battlefield, leading cavalry forces that helped establish the Jin as one of the dominant powers of his era.

In Chinese legends and stories, particularly those centered on the patriot-general Yue Fei, Jin Wuzhu is often portrayed as the principal rival of the Song forces. While depicted as an antagonist from the Song perspective, he is also respected as a capable and determined commander whose military talent earned admiration from friend and foe alike. His legacy endures as one of the Jin dynasty's greatest warriors, symbolizing the strength, ambition, and martial prowess of the Jurchen empire at its height.
