Romance of the Three Kingdoms Cao Pi

S$138.00

Cao Pi was the son of the formidable warlord Cao Cao and the first emperor of the state of Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms period. A skilled politician and writer, he was known for his intelligence, ambition, and poetic talent. He forced Emperor Xian of Han to abdicate, effectively ending the Han Dynasty and establishing Wei in 220 AD. Though less militarily active than his father, Cao Pi was decisive in consolidating power. He rewarded loyalty and punished dissent with cold precision. His court was a place of both refinement and ruthless politics.

As a literary figure, Cao Pi was a patron of the arts and helped shape early Chinese literary criticism. His work Dianlun was among the first to discuss the merit of literature and authorship. He also had a complicated relationship with his brother Cao Zhi, whom he admired and envied for his poetic brilliance. Despite his often cold demeanor, Cao Pi played a key role in stabilizing Wei’s internal affairs. He ruled for only six years but left a lasting legacy in both statecraft and literature. His reign marked a pivotal shift from warlord rule to dynastic authority.
