Water Margin Ruan Xiaowu

Ruan Xiaowu (阮小五), also known as “The Short-Lived Second Brother,” is one of the three Ruan brothers in Water Margin and ranks 31st among the 108 Stars of Destiny. Bold, fierce, and hot-blooded, he is the middle sibling between Ruan Xiaoer and Ruan Xiaoqi. Hailing from Shijie Village near Liangshan Marsh, Ruan Xiaowu was originally a fisherman, but turned to rebellion due to the unjust treatment of the poor.

Alongside his brothers, he played a key role in the uprising against the corrupt officials of the Song dynasty. His loyalty to Liangshan’s cause and his fearless nature made him one of the strongest warriors in the bandit brotherhood. He was known for his short temper, but also for his unflinching courage in battle.
