Water Margin Shan Tinggui

Shan Tinggui (单廷珪), nicknamed the “Divine Water General” (圣水将军), is a distinguished military commander in Water Margin (Shuihu Zhuan). Originally serving the imperial army, he is renowned for his mastery of water-based warfare and specialized tactics involving flooding and aquatic battle formations. Alongside Wei Dingguo, the “Divine Fire General,” he is dispatched to defeat the Liangshan heroes, bringing his military expertise and formidable reputation to the campaign.

However, Shan Tinggui's encounter with the Liangshan forces ultimately leads him to join their brotherhood, becoming one of the 108 Stars of Destiny. He is ranked among the 72 Earthly Fiends as the Earthly Hero Star (地雄星). His expertise in water warfare makes him an invaluable commander, complementing Wei Dingguo's mastery of fire-based tactics. For Water Margin fans, Shan Tinggui is a memorable example of the novel's inventive military characters, whose specialized abilities add variety and strategic depth to the legendary Liangshan army.
