Li Dingguo

Li Dingguo (李定國) was one of the most celebrated military commanders of the Southern Ming resistance against the Qing dynasty. Originally a prominent general under Zhang Xianzhong, he later joined the Southern Ming cause and became one of its most formidable commanders, earning a reputation for courage, strategic skill, and determination. His campaigns achieved notable victories against Qing forces, including the famous defeat of the Qing prince Liang Guoying at Guilin in 1652.

For fans of Chinese history, Li Dingguo represents the unyielding resistance and tragic struggle of the Southern Ming during one of the most turbulent transitions in Chinese history. Often portrayed as a loyal and capable warrior, he continued fighting even as the Southern Ming position steadily deteriorated, eventually retreating toward Burma after the fall of much of his territory. His legacy remains closely associated with martial valor, loyalty, and the final resistance of the Ming loyalists.
